Softball: Liebengood perfect for Lions
MOBILE, Ala. - Gina Liebengood became the second pitcher in the
history of Vanguard University softball to throw a perfect game as the
Lions defeated the host University of Mobile, 2-0, in the second of two
games played on Tuesday.
Liebengood struck out 13 and joined Beth Howard as the only Lions to
retire all 21 batters faced. Howard accomplished the feat in 1994.
Val Vanaken and Jill Jessen each had RBI singles for the Lions (14-10).
The Lions lost in their first game of the day, 4-1, to the University of
Incarnate Word of Texas.
Vanguard will take on Alabama’s Spring Hill University in a doubleheader
today before competing in the University of West Florida Spring Fling
Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
