Baseball: Vanguard drops two to Westmont

COSTA MESA - Vanguard University’s baseball team dropped two tough
games to visiting Westmont Saturday in a Golden State Athletic Conference
doubleheader.
In the first game, the Lions (4-14, 2-11 in conference) tied it, 2-2, in
the fifth inning before the Warriors retook the lead to win, 5-3. Sam
Baeder had two RBIs for Vanguard with a single, and Ryan Dambach had an
RBI double for the Lions. Anthony Walker pitched eight innings and gave
up four earned runs for Vanguard.
In the second game, the Lions scored three times in the bottom of the
third, but lost, 4-3, as they gave up runs in the sixth and eighth
inning. Westmont’s Mike Murphy hit two home runs, but it was his
sacrifice fly that drove in the winning run. James Dent had two hits for
Vanguard.
