This wooden schooner yacht was home ported in Newport Harbor for a short
time in 1933. Due to her draft of 12 feet, 3 inches she could not come
clear into the harbor. Two moorings were placed in the lower bay off of L
Street on the Balboa Peninsula.
The owner, C.E. Hoffman of Pasadena and 1318 E. Balboa Blvd, Balboa, was
a member of Newport Harbor Yacht Club and California Yacht Club.
Hoffman and his family cruised to Mexico on several occasions. Fandango
sailed in the 1939 Honolulu Yacht Race, which started from San Francisco.
She was purchased by the Navy during World War II and used in an offshore
patrol fleet. Following the war, Fandango was acquired by private
interests and used in a commercial fishing operation in Mexico.-- By John
Blaich, Corona del Mar resident, yacht historian and active sailor.
