UC Berkeley pastor to speak in Newport

Our Lady Queen of Angels’ annual Lenten mission will feature a series of

lectures by Richard Sparks, a Paulist priest and pastor of the campus

ministry community at UC Berkeley.

Sparks will speak on “Catholic Faith, A Timeless Story, Ever New.”

In debates of morality and ethics, Sparks has frequently served on

national and regional task forces. He has spoken on the use of fetal

tissue for transplants and the merger of Catholic and public hospitals.

Sparks’ talks will be at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Rock Harbor to hold annual ‘Stirring’ event

Rock Harbor Church will hold its multidenominational “Stirring” event at

the Orange County Fairgrounds on Sunday.

The event is designed to encourage people of different generations and

denominations to participate in the worship of God.

Officials from several local churches, including Todd Proctor of Rock

Harbor Church and Eddie Espinoza of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church,

will speak at the event, which starts at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be sold

by the fairgrounds, but attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or

beach chairs for seating.
