House to host NHBA fundraiser for family of fallen coach

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor Baseball Association will host a
fundraising baseball clinic taught by former Major League Pitcher Tom
House Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help raise money for the family of
the late Craig Smith.
Smith, a volunteer manager and coach for the NHBA died over the winter
break from complications related from the flu.
House, who played for the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox and the Seattle
Mariners from 1967-79, will teach youngsters about hitting, pitching and
fielding, with all proceeds going to Smith’s family.
The clinic will be open to all youngsters in the Newport-Mesa community
ages 5-13. The suggested donation is $25 per child, $40 for two children
and $50 for three or more children.
Checks should be sent to the NHBA, 1048 Irvine Ave., Newport Beach, CA
92660-4602, or simply come about 15 minutes early and sign up that Sunday
morning.
The NHBA already raised $1,800 for the Smith family on opening day with a
silent auction of over 85 different sports memorabilia.
