Oak View may continue to reap rewards of tobacco tax
- Share via
Since Proposition 28 bit the dust, Oak View Family Center and other
local health programs will continue to benefit from the 50-cent tax
levied on cigarettes.
Proposition 28, which lost with 72% voting against, would have
repealed the tax. Passed in November 1998, money from the tobacco tax is
to be used to fund health programs for children and infants.
Oak View is one of six sites in Orange County to benefit from tobacco
tax revenues totaling more than $1 million.
The center recently received $80,000 in funding, which it plans to use
to hire a full-time public health nurse and for family health workshops
and seminars.
