Baseball: Lions hold off Azusa Pacific, 6-5

COSTA MESA - Anthony Walker pitched seven strong innings to lead
the Vanguard University baseball team to a 7-6 win over visiting Azusa
Pacific in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
Walker picked up his first win of the season, scattering seven hits,
while striking out four.
The Lions (4-11, 2-8 in conference) had leads of 5-0 and 6-2 before Azusa
Pacific (10-4-1, 4-2) cut the lead to one.
Ryan Williams relieved Walker, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts
in the final two innings, collecting his second save of the season.
Sam Baeder collected three hits with a run scored and an RBI, Tim Jara
had a solo home run and Kevin Candelaria drove in two for Vanguard.
Game two of Saturday’s doubleheader with APU was suspended after five
innings, with the Lions trailing, 5-1. The game will be completed on
April 11 prior to the next GSAC game between the Lions and APU.
