Baseball: Newport pulls it out in fourth inning
- Share via
NEWPORT BEACH - It was weird enough that Newport Harbor High’s
baseball team was the road team Saturday, even though it played at the
Sailors’ home field.
It’s even weirder to say that the Tars scored six runs in their final
at-bat during the top of the fourth to pull out a 6-4 triumph over
Inglewood in the second round of the North Orange County Tournament. The
game was called after four-innings with the score official.
Down 4-0 in the top of the fourth, Newport catcher Nick Langsdorf led off
with a double. The Sailors (1-1) then got an RBI triple from Donovan Wong
and RBI singles from Chris Ward and Mike Jones. Ward scored Newport’s
go-ahead run on an Inglewood error and Alan Lane drove in Newport’s final
run.
Justin Jacobs was the winning pitcher for Newport, going three innings.
