KIDS TALK BACK -- Who’s to blame for school shootings?
“It’s shocking. You have to sit and wonder what is happening. My aunt
said that when she was my age something similar happened, but it was the
rarity. Now school shootings happen all of the time. I don’t know how
people are getting these guns!”
BONNIE DIAS, 16
Newport Beach
“It seems like every time a school shooting happens, the kids get younger
and younger. Every day, it’s something new. You wonder how young it’s
going to get. How big do their hands have to be to hold a gun? Where do
they learn how to do this? I blame the media, the entertainment industry,
cartoons. It’s all about gun control.”
WHITNEY REMPP, 16
Corona del Mar
“I think the parents of that little boy are to blame.”
ALICIA MOORE, 16
Costa Mesa
“I think you have to blame the parents and the media. You have to learn
this behavior somewhere. Problems have really progressed over the years.
What’s it going to be like for our kids?”
LINDSAY HILLMAN, 16
Newport Beach
“My history teacher brought this subject up and we talked about it in
class. Personally, I think it has to do with family background. I think
the parents should be held responsible because the kid is six.”
COLBY GEORGE, 17
Newport Beach
