Baseball: Pirates can’t hold on

FULLERTON - The Orange Coast College men’s baseball team found some
offense, but failed to hold down the fort in Thursday’s 7-6 Orange Empire
Conference loss to host Fullerton.
The Pirates (5-9, 0-3 in conference) had leads of 3-0, 4-3, and 6-3, but
could not hold down Fullerton (2-1 in conference), who converted 14
singles into seven runs.
Jason Reuss had three hits, including his sixth home run of the season,
three runs scored and two RBIs to lead OCC’s attack.
Blair Havens and Chris Laws chipped in with two hits and a run scored,
while Brian Murphy had a hit and two RBIs.
In the top of the ninth, the Pirates had two runners on and one out, but
a smash by Reuss went right to the Hornets’ shortstop, who turned a
double play to end the game.
The Pirates continue their five-game OEC road tour on Tuesday at
Saddleback before traveling to Cypress on Thursday. Both games begin at 2
p.m.
