Vikings’ Chlebicki shares Sunset League MVP in girls water polo

Marina High junior Cara Chlebicki was named co-MVP of for Sunset
League girls water polo 2000, sharing the league’s top honor with
Esperanza senior Teresa Guidi, it was announced Wednesday.
Esperanza’s Max Miyahara, who guided the Aztecs to the league title, was
selected the Coach of the Year.
The nine-member First Team was dotted with five local players, while the
Second Team was comprised of eight locals.
Representing Marina on the First Team were senior Shauna Nielsen and
junior Kendra Shanley, from Edison came juniors Caitlin Wilkes and Ali
Malczynski, and Kristen Freemon was chosen from Huntington Beach.
Rounding out the First Team were seniors Katie Rousse and Theresa Conner,
and junior Jessica Conner, all of Esperanza, and Los Alamitos senior
Melanie Craig.
Named to the 11-player Second Team from Marina were juniors Sarah Mix and
Erin Wilson, senior Tracy Andersen, junior Ashley Bookspan, and
sophomores Leyna Belcher and Melissa Murphy, all from Edison, Huntington
Beach senior Laura Sunderman, and Fountain Valley junior Staella
Gianakakos.
Esperanza junior Kelsi Mills and Los Alamitos juniors Drue Wawrzynski and
Jessica Levin, complete the Second Team.
