College baseball: Vanguard loses in ninth inning

LA MIRADA - Vanguard University’s baseball team took an early lead
with a four-run second inning Tuesday afternoon. But host Biola staged a
steady comeback and pulled out an 8-7 Golden State Athletic Conference
victory in the top of the ninth inning.
Biola’s Jonathan Rouwenhorst drove in his second run of the day with a
single for the Eagles (13-4, 7-2 in conference). Biola scored four runs
in the last three innings to come back from a 6-3 deficit.
Samuel Baeder went 3 for 5 with one RBI and run scored for the Lions
(3-11, 1-8). Vanguard’s Ryan Dambach went 2 for 3 with an RBI and his
teammate Kevin Candelaria went 3 for 5. Michael Bair and Matt Tisthammer
scored two Vanguard runs.
Biola went through three pitchers in the first 3 1/3 innings. Four of the
Lions’ seven runs were unearned.
