Women’s basketball: Lions handle Cal Baptist

COSTA MESA - After a slow start, the Vanguard University women’s
basketball team turned it around and won handily, 79-56, over visiting
Cal Baptist in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference
Tournament.
After falling behind by seven, the Lions regrouped and went on a 19-3
run, taking the lead for good.
Kelly Boeke led the Lions (27-5) with 17 points, while Laura Lee, Paulete
Seaman and Courtney McKinney each pulled down seven rebounds.
Dawn Cason led Cal Baptist with 21 points.
With the win the Lions will advance to the GSAC semifinals where they
will host Point Loma Nazarene Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Vanguard knocked off Pt. Loma, 69-51, at home on Feb. 8, but suffered a
72-59 loss to the Crusaders on Jan. 11.
