Vanguard falls, 94-84
Trailing by 10 near the halfway point of the first half, Biola
University (23-4 overall) rallied to claim a 94-84 Golden State Athletic
Conference victory over visiting Vanguard University Saturday in men’s
basketball to improve its conference-leading mark to 14-2.
Vanguard’s Lions had a 25-15 lead in the early going, and eventually
fought off a 44-36 halftime deficit to pull even at 64 with 10:58 left in
the conest, but eight Biola free throws in the final minute sealed the
verdict.
Vanguard’s John Kohlass scorched the nets for 35 points for game
honors, and teammates Dennis Keane and Kemmny Burgess chipped in with 16
and 15 points, respectively.
Kohlhass connected on 12 of 16 from the field, including 5 of 6 from
three-point territory. He was 6 for 6 from the line before fouling out
with 2:30 remaining.
The game was a three-point shootout.
Vanguard nailed 15 of 26 perimeter attempts, and Biola was 15 for 28
on three-pointers. Combined, the two teams were 30 of 54 from beyond the
arc.
Vanguard, which fell to 11-17 overall, 3-13 in the GSAC, is at
Christian Heritage Tuesday night.
