Women’s basketball: OCC defeats Riverside, 73-62

COSTA MESA - Shauna Steward scored 27 points to lead Orange Coast
College’s women’s basketball team to a 73-62 win over visiting Riverside
Friday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.
Steward hit 4 of 9 three-pointers and got four steals for the Pirates
(26-5, 10-4 in conference). Leah Wilde had 14 points and Sarah
Middlebrooke scored 11 for OCC. Steward and Wilde hit all seven OCC
three-pointers. Erin Tomlinson and Melissa Lewis had the most rebounds
for OCC, with six each.
Except for Riverside’s Claudine Auld and backup Irene Washburn, who
scored 13 and 14 respectively, the Pirates defense stifled the Tigers
into 36% field goal shooting. Auld led Riverside with 11 rebounds, and three Tigers grabbed nine boards.
OCC led at halftime, 50-34, before coasting, allowing Riverside to
outscore it in the second half, 28-23.
