p.m. March 1 and 2 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

“The Planets” is a work of seven movements that reflect the planets that

were known at the time the piece was written, 1913. The movements include

“Mars, the Bringer of War,” “Venus, the Bringer of Peace,” “Jupiter, the

Bringer of Jollity,” “Uranus, the Magician” and “Neptune, the Mystic.”

A display of interactive telescopes will be placed on the plaza patio of

The Center before the performance.

Also prior to the performance will be a Classic Encounters for Singles

party at The Westin South Coast Plaza. The preconcert party will include

live jazz, appetizers and a no-host bar. There also will be party games

to break the ice.

Along with “The Planets,” party guests and symphony patrons will be

entertained by Garrick Ohlsson’s performance of Rachmaninoff’s “Piano

Concerto No. 1.”
