HUNTINGTON BEACH -- A local woman who was involved in a November 1998
hit-and-run car accident that ultimately killed beloved Huntington Beach
activist Tom Logan was sentenced Feb. 8 to 10 years in prison for gross
vehicular manslaughter.
Kasandra LaFlash entered a guilty plea earlier this month and was
sentenced to serve her time in the state prison system at Chino, a
district attorney’s office spokesman said.
“The sentence seems hardly adequate in relation to his contribution to
the community,” said Huntington Beach Councilman Dave Sullivan, a
longtime friend of Logan’s. “But I hope it gives the family some
closure.”
Logan was a member of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, Concerned Citizens
Committee of Orange County and the Citizen’s Bureau of Investigations.
LaFlash, 64, smashed head-on into Logan’s Volkswagen Beetle on Nov. 4,
1998. She was intoxicated and was fleeing authorities from another
hit-and-run incident when she slammed into Logan.
Although LaFlash walked away from the accident with no major injuries,
Logan suffered punctured lungs and 38 fractures to his legs.
He remained in a semiconscious state at Long Beach Memorial Hospital for
several months before his death on Feb. 23, 1999.
