Baseball: Pirates lose to East LA

SAN DIEGO - Eric Wiethorn had a double, a home run, two runs scored
and three RBIs for the Orange Coast College baseball team, but missed
opportunities proved too costly for the Pirates in Saturday’s 7-5 Apache
Classic loss to East Los Angeles.
Wiethorn (Corona del Mar High) put the Pirates in front in the top of the
fourth inning with a three-run home run, but East LA answered with four
runs in the bottom of the inning.
Trailing, 6-4, in the top of the fifth inning, the Pirates (2-3) had the
bases loaded with nobody out and the heart of the lineup coming to bat,
but could not score.
East LA pitchers combined to strike out 11 Pirate players.
OCC concludes the Apache Classic today at 10 a.m. against Grossmont.
