Surf City Blues holds off Newport Mesa

Despite their differences in records, their was very little that
separated the West Huntington Beach Surf City Blues and Newport Mesa.
The difference in the girls 6th-Grade All-Net Division contest was the
Surf City Blues’ Catherine Marcoly, who scored six of her game-high 10
points in the fourth quarter to help West Huntington Beach pull out a
26-20 victory.
The two teams were tied, 13-13, at the half.
Susie Bartolme grabbed 13 rebounds, Erin Barney and Audra Tamulaitis
combined for 15 rebounds, and the defensive play of Rachael Maulit
accounted for nine steals for the Surf City Blues improve their second
place record to 6-1.
The loss dropped Newport Mesa to 1-6 overall.

Sparks 16, Girls Got Game 11
The Sparks, who dropped their season opener in a one point loss to Girls
Got Game, avenged that defeat behind a tenacious defensive that featured
Deanna Ray, Kaitlin Davis, Brooke Dodge, Meryl Engler, Janine Chavez, and
Theresa Flanagan, plus the scoring of Kelly Peterson. The Sparks are now
7-1, while Girls Got Game, who were led by the defensive play of Veronica
Beavor, dropped to 6-2.
