NHB advances at State Cup
NHB Black boys Under-10 soccer team advanced to the second round of
State Cup play by collecting two victories and a tie last weekend in
Rancho Penasquitos.
Chris Velez scored two goals Saturday to lead the way in a 6-1 triumph
over the RSF Attack of Rancho Santa Fe. Favian Robiatti, Christian
Ramirez, Esteban Orejel, and Bobby Tornel also scored, and Matt Wood,
Ryan Lehane, and Jhovany Hernandez provided the defense in a match played
in a drizzle.
The sun broke out later Saturday afternoon, and NHB broke through with a
5-0 shutout of Arsenal FC. Jonathon Rivas, Patrick Sheffield, and goalie
Randy Brito shut down the Arsenal attack, and the Black offense included
two goals apiece of Christian Ramirez and Esteban Orejel, and one on
Robiatti’s penalty kick.
NHB, the Coast Soccer League Silver South champion, next battled Presidio
League AA champion San Diego Surf to a scoreless tie. Both teams finished
the weekend with two victories and a tie, but NHB was awarded first place
as it outscored the Surf, 12-9, in those three games.
The Black will take on host Lancaster Feb. 12.
