COSTA MESA - Gina Liebengood spun a two-hitter as Vanguard
University shut visiting Cal State Dominguez down in the first game of a
nonconference doubleheader Tuesday in college women’s softball. 3-1, but
the visitors salvaged a split with a six-run seventh inning in the
nightcap en route to a 6-2 victory.
Val Vanaken went 2 for 3 at the plate for Vanguard in the opener, and
Vanguard appeared to have the second game wrapped with a two-run burst in
the sixth, with Jill Jessen (2 for 3) keying the assault with a
run-scoring double in the sixth.
Cal State Dominguez, however, bounced back with six unearned runs in the
seventh, dropping Vanguard to 3-3 overall.
