Baseball: OCC splits in Matt O’Brien tournament
COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College’s baseball team defeated San
Diego City in its first game of the Matt O’Brien Memorial Tournament
Saturday at OCC, 6-4. The Pirates dropped a 12-11 decision to Moorpark
in the second game.
Jason Reuss and Ryan Franco led off the fifth inning with back-to-back
homers to propel Orange Coast College to the victory over San Diego City.
OCC’s Adam Anderson, who went 3 for 5 with a double and triple, drove in
Corona del Mar High product Eric Wiethorn for the go-ahead run in the
eighth inning. OCC (1-2) starter John Coleman pitched six innings and
gave up four runs, only one earned.
OCC’s Blair Havens hit a grand slam as the Pirates scored five runs in
the first inning, but Moorpark chipped away and put up three runs in the
eighth to win. Wiethorn went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for OCC.
