Baseball: OCC drops opener
COSTA MESA - Despite six strong innings of work from sophomore Mike
Carey, Orange Coast College’s baseball team couldn’t get its offense on
track in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Mt. San Jacinto in the opening day of the
Matt O’Brien Memorial Tournament.
Carey struck out six and allowed only one earned run in the loss.
Mt. San Jacinto’s Bryan Heaston kept OCC off balance most of the day,
allowing only five hits and had six strikeouts over eight-plus innings.
Jason Reuss and Orlando Caro were the lone offensive stars for the
Pirates.
Reuss scored in the first inning after reaching base on a double and
cracked his first home run of the year to right-center in the eighth.
Caro had three of the Pirates’ six hits.
The Pirates continue tournament action today against San Diego City at 10
a.m. and Moorpark at 2 p.m.
