Girls water polo: Newport stays in hunt for championship

LAKE FOREST - Newport Harbor High’s girls water polo team won twice
at El Toro Thursday to stay in the winners bracket of the Irvine Southern
California Championships.
In the first game, Newport (18-4) crushed Millikan, 11-1. Katherine
Belden’s three goals led the Sailors onslaught. Jenna Booth, Ali Taylor
and Katherine Gregg each scored two goals for Newport.
The Sailors then beat Cabrillo, 8-3, as Gregg scored three times. Taylor
and Kyndra Cox added two goals, and Jenna Murphy had one Newport goal.
The Sailors advance to face Santa Barbara, the No. 1 seed in the El Toro
bracket. The game is tonight at 6.
