AYSO Region 97: Newport All-Stars tie, lose over weekend

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach All-Star Rhinos tied Tustin, 1-1,

before falling to North Irvine, 3-0, last weekend.

In the tie against Tustin, goalkeeper Avery Paulson played a strong first

half, keeping the game close, while Calvin Jhunjhnuwala, R.J. D’Cruz,

Erik Bonn and Taylor Friend help shut down Tustin’s offense.

The Rhinos scored in the second half on a goal by Nicholas Sheffield,

with assists coming from Jake Kalwitz and Adrian Buonanoce.

In the loss to North Irvine, strong play was turned in by Jamie Galley,

Andrew Kaban, Brandon Parole, Kyle Caldwell, Andrew Wilson, Gerardo Avila

and Garrett Heiser.

Newport will take on Costa Mesa and Corona del Mar this weekend at

Windrow Field.
