Boys soccer: Mesa knocks off Uni, 1-0
IRVINE - Costa Mesa High’s boys soccer team got its first Pacific
Coast League win of the year against host University Wednesday, 1-0.
Mesa’s Mike Gardiner scored in the first half off an assist from Zack
Powell. The Mustangs’ defense then held Uni in check. Mesa goalie Justin
Schoettler made 10 saves.
“This was a very big win,” Costa Mesa Coach Mike Dunn said. “They’re
defending league champs, and the game was away. Everybody came ready to
play today, and we’re peaking at the right time.”
Mesa is now 4-10-5, 1-2-3 in the PCL, while Uni falls to 3-2-1 in league.
Mesa tied the Trojans, 0-0, in their previous meeting this season.
