Wave Runners edge West HB for Area K crown

In a one-game playoff to determine the girls Under-12 Area 11-K

champion, the HB Wave Runners of AYSO Region 56 edged West Huntington

Beach, 1-0, Sunday.

The victory capped a three-week climb to the crown for the Wave Runners,

who earned the right to advance to the Sectional playoffs to be held

March 4-5 at UC Irvine.

Jan Cutler’s nice cross to the middle set up Michelle Trivisonno for the

winning goal in the championship final, and a solid team effort by the

Wave Runners kept West Huntington Beach off the scoreboard.

Wave Runners who had a big hand in delivering Region 56 an Area 11-K

crown included Candace Mecklenburg, Devon Griffin, Becky Mars, Cara

Jeffers, Patty Abad-Santos, Amanda Daus, goalie Stacy Polica (four

shutouts), Keely Miller, Sammy Borkenhagen, Michelle Bublitz, Sioban

Wade, and coaches Jim Mecklenburg and John Griffin.

In the round robin tournament, the Wave Runners posted a 4-1-1 record.
