Surf City Blues roll onward
It was a complete game performance from tip-off to final horn
Sunday for the West Huntington Beach 6th-grade girls All-Net basketball
team, which rolled to a 38-16 victory over Garden Grove in National
Junior Basketball play at Garden Grove High.
The Surf City Blues took command early, staking their way to a 12-3 lead
behind the ball handling and defensive play of Rachael Maulit, as well as
the scoring of Catherine Marcoly.
The Blues led 20-5 at the half and took a 24-11 lead into the final
quarter, where Erin Barney provided the spark with four assists and three
steals.
Marcoly led all scorers with 14 points, and Maulit had nine steals. Susie
Bartolme and Audra Talulaitis combined for 20 rebounds for the winners.
West Huntington Beach, now 5-1 overall and in second place in the
Southern California 6th-grade girls All-Net standings, travels Sunday to
Redlands.

DIVISION 2
Shaqettes 31, Newport Mesa 13
Lauren Kaprielian led all scorers with 13 points, Jacque Anderson scored
a season-high 10 points, and the defense held the Sparks scoreless in the
second period as the Shaqettes improved to 6-1.
DIVISION 3
Girls Got Game 28, Newport Mesa 10
Hilary Pool (12) and Stephanie Hunter (11) accounted for 23 of the 28
points scored by Girls Got Game, who improved to 6-1 overall. Pool also
grabbed seven rebounds to go along with a steal, Hunter had four rebounds
and three steals, Nicole Kaprielian added four rebounds and a pair of
steals, Mary Madden had four rebounds, and Kali Fournier added three
steals and a rebounds against the Liberty.

DIVISION 1
North HB 29, FV Martians 25
Trailing 24-5, the Martians staged a valiant rally, but fell short.
Ashley Courtney scored 12 points on four, three-point shots, and Crystal
Perez pulled down 16 rebounds and scored seven points for the Martians.
DIVISION 2
Tsunamis 35, North HB 19
Melanie Lisnock scored 11 points, Leah Ankers had 11 rebounds, and Desriee Pedersen played solidly in the Tsunamis victory.
