DETTLOFF REAPPOINTED
Councilwoman Shirley Dettloff will serve another term on the California
Coastal Commission.
She was first appointed to the commission in February 1998. Her new term
will begin Feb. 4 and will last another two years.
“I think you’ve done a good job of trying to balance the many competing
interests. Keep up the good work,” state Sen. John L. Burton, who chairs
the Senate Rules Committee, told Dettloff in a letter.
VOTER REGISTRATION
Locals can pick up voter registration cards in the city clerk’s office at
Huntington Beach City Hall and at local libraries and post offices. Once
completed, the forms should be mailed to the Orange County Registrar of
Voters, P.O. Box 15467, Santa Ana 92735.
The last day to register for the March 7 primary election is Feb. 7.
Individuals must be at least 18 to vote.

WORLD YOUTH DAY
Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fountain Valley is raising money to send a
group of high school students and adults to World Youth Day 2000 in Rome
in August. The cost of the 18-day trip is $4,000 per person and will
include visits to Portugal, Spain and France before arriving in Italy.
The church is seeking donations, which are tax deductible, from families
and individuals.

PROGRAMMING HONORS
Time Warner Communications has been nominated for two programming awards
by the Southern California Cable and Telecommunications Assn.
“The Silva Update,” a monthly talk show hosted by Orange County
Supervisor Jim Silva, was nominated for the best governmental programming
award. The “Summer Equestrian Classic,” an annual competition benefiting
the Huntington Beach Art Center, was nominated for best sports coverage.
Both shows can be seen on Time Warner Channel 6 in Huntington Beach,
Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Westminster, Stanton, Los Alamitos and
Midway City.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony Feb. 3.
AMIGOS MEETING
The next meeting of the Amigos de Bolsa Chica board of advisors will be
held Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Amigos office, 16531 Bolsa Chica St., Suite
312, Huntington Beach.
