COMMUNITY & CLUBS -- jim de boom

Starting this Monday, you will see a half-page display ad in the Daily

Pilot on the fourth Monday of each month, featuring a different local

service club. Over the next 14 months, you will learn more about each of

the local Exchange, Lion, Kiwanis, Rotary and Soroptimist clubs, their

members and the service projects they are involved in. The hope is that

more people will be encouraged to get more involved in community service

and maybe join a service club.

THE CALL OF THE NORTH: My brother LeRoy called from Minneapolis on

Wednesday to say that our 92-year-old father was in the hospital needing

major surgery. They were trying to get it scheduled for Friday or

Saturday, so I am off to subzero temperatures and the snow banks of

Minneapolis for a few days to see where I can help out. Thus the

shortness of this week’s column.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SERVICE CLUBS: Jack Allanach, sponsored by

Seymour Beek, who joined the Exchange Club of Newport Harbor. Tara

Toction, sponsored by Steve Dworet, who joined the Rotary Club of

Newport-Irvine.

WORTH REPEATING: From the Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis

Club’s publication, “Scuttlebutt.”

“A good word spoken costs nothing, but the results are worth a lot.”
