THE ISSUE: Planning Commissioner Ed Laird -- who is also Dave Garofalo’s

boss -- is paying for a mayor’s assistant.

My opinion is yes, I think that it is very necessary that a mayor have an

assistant (“The mayor takes an aide,” Jan. 6). I feel that the time

constraints are set, but I don’t see how he can effectively do his job

without having an assistant.

I believe the taxpayers should pay for it. I have no problem with that. I

believe that the city is shortsighted in not supplying it.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with another individual supplying an

assistant for him.
