Mohs dedication
HUNTINGTON BEACH - Dedication ceremonies, which are expected to
draw a large turnout honoring the late Dave Mohs of Newport Beach, are
Jan. 28 at Edison High.
The program, naming the facility the Dave Mohs Gymnasium, will be at
halftime of Edison’s varsity basketball game against Marina, which begins
at 7 p.m.
Some 35 years of Sunset League notables, which include many years when
Newport Harbor was a member of the famed circuit, are expected to attend,
as well as the volleyball community encompassing Southern California.
Mohs, who died of cancer in July of 1996, was primarily a coach of
boys basketball, then girls volleyball, and was voted CIF Southern
Section Coach of the Year in 1994.
While his primary focus was within the Edison High arena, his coaching
and personality touched the lives of, in particular, volleyball
enthusiasts throughout Orange County.
Edison High is at 21400 Magnola, at the corner of Hamilton. - by
