The Crowd -- b.w. cook

John and Donna Crean will once again host Super Bowl Sunday at the
Village Crean. The big football Sunday slated for Jan. 30 will benefit
FACES, a juvenile connection program serving high-risk youth and their
families to prevent delinquency.
Villa Nova, the popular Italian restaurant on the Newport Harbor owned by
the Creans’ son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Charlene, will cater the
party with Italian delicacies. Naturally, the buffet would not be
complete without the good-old American favorites -- hamburgers and hot
dogs fresh off the grill.
Soiree Catering also will be on hand to accommodate the hamburger lover.
A silent auction will be set up on the grounds to help raise money for
FACES featuring an annual Edwards Cinema pass and a ride on the Goodyear
Blimp.
Tickets are $100 per person and can be reserved by calling (714)
879-9616. Underwriting opportunities are still available. It’s the Super
Bowl party of the year in Newport Beach, and you’re invited.
Stephanie Argyros and Sue Carter chaired with panache the Moroccan
Millennium Celebration for Orangewood PALS, a support wing of the
Orangewood Children’s Home.
Billed as a party to come along once in a thousand years, the Fashion
Island-based event lived up to its publicity campaign. More than 500
locals -- in support of the Orangewood program helping young children
sheltered at the facility -- danced the night away. The crowd was
decidedly young, but not restless. West Coast Productions created the
middle-eastern theme, and Regency Catering provided Moroccan food for the
end-of-the-century revelers.
Private cabanas were set up for the bigger donors as champagne flowed
from tent to tent. A magnificent main stage tent the size of a sports
field was the centerpiece of the evening, filled with guests including
Orangewood PALS committee members Lisa Carter, Sabrina Combs, Melissa
Frank, Anna Joslin, Lori Junkins, Amy Manser, Kelly Hodge Penske, Tammy
Ring, Maja Santley, Julie Secrist, Shannon Storms, Logan Wilson Tass and
Sherri Worth.
Also on hand for the evening were Sally Clark, Wendy Woleben, Keri Dugan,
Rene Matz and event designer Jeffrey Best. Underwriting for the party was
provided by The Argyros Foundation, Kring and Brown LLP, Chapman Medical
Center, Toyota of Orange, Neiman Marcus, Fletcher Jones, Imperial Credit
Foundation, Scott Schubert of American Express Financial and the Los
Angeles Times, Orange County.
Spotted in the PALS contingency were Eric and Shirley Pepys, Murray
Joslin, Tim and Julie Yale, Greg and Cindy Dillon, Bob and Phoebe
Lambeth, and Darren and Logan Tass.
“What a great way to celebrate the new year by raising funds to help the
abused and neglected children of Orange County,” said Mitch Junkins,
chairman of the PALS board.More than $100,000 was raised. For more
information on PALS, call the PALS hotline at (714) 741-9368.
