Surf City Blues win again
The West Huntington Beach Surf City Blues continued their winning
ways Sunday with a 30-25 victory over the Santa Ana Shooting Stars in a
National Junior Basketball girls 6th-grade All-Net game.
The win sets up a Sunday showdown for first place against Villa Park
(4-0) at Huntington Beach High.
Santa Ana jumped out to an early four point lead, but Courtney Brown’s
six points and three steals in the second quarter helped lead Surf City
to a one point halftime lead.
The Blues still led by one point heading into the final period, but the
ball handling of Rachael Maulit and Catherine Marcoly put Surf City in
control in the final two minutes.
Maulit scored eight points with six steals, Susie Bartolme provided nine
rebounds and eight points, and Laura Boggeln pulled down nine rebounds
for the Blues.

West HB 35, FV Martians 11
The Martians grabbed the quick lead but were overtaken by West Huntington
Beach and never recovered. Ashley Courtney scored six points and Nikki
Koenig hit a three-point shot to pace the Martians.

DIVISION II
Sparks 30, Newport-Mesa 18
Lauren Kaprielian scored 10 of South Huntington Beach’s 14 first half
points and finished with 14 overall and Elyse Kirmaci scored eight of her
10 points during the decisive second half run as the Sparks pulled away
from the Roadrunners.
DIVISION III
Got Game 30, Pistons 6
Defense was the name of the game for Girls Got Game, who held the Pistons
scoreless until the final period. Hilary Pool scored seven points with
five rebounds, Nicole Kaprielian scored four points with four steals,
while both Tami Fournier and Stephanie Hunter each came up with three
steals and two assists.

DIVISION II
HB Comets 37, FV Tsunamis 14
Melanie Lisnock knocked down 10 points and Leah Ankers had eight rebounds
to lead the Tsunamis in defeat.
