FANTASY IN MAGIC
A special children’s program, “Fantasy in Magic,” will be held at the
Huntington Beach Central Library on Wednesday.
Levitation and disappearing rabbits will be among the tricks featured
during the show.
The program will begin at 4 p.m. in the Library Theater, 7111 Talbert
Ave. Admission is $3. Advanced ticket purchases are encouraged.

TRIVIA CHALLENGE
The 200 Trivia Challenge fund-raiser for the Adult Literacy Program at
the Huntington Beach Library will be held Feb. 18.
More than a dozen city, corporate and community teams will compete for
the Trivia Champ title. The event -- now in its eighth year -- is
sponsored by the Literacy Volunteers of America-Huntington Valley.
The cost to attend is $10, and that includes a light supper. And door
prizes will be raffled off throughout the evening.

FRIENDS IN NEED
The Friends of the Library need volunteers to work in the group’s gift
shop at the Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Ave. Proceeds
from gift shop sales help to support various library programs.

ART CENTER
“Centered on the Center,” an exhibit of two- and three-dimensional wall
work, sculpture, video and installations created within the past two
years, will be featured at the Huntington Beach Art Center from Jan. 23
through March 3.

ANNUAL MARATHON
Jan. 30 is the date for this year’s Pacific Shoreline Marathon. The event
-- which takes place on Super Bowl Sunday -- kicks off at 5 a.m. and
continues until 2 p.m. with a half-marathon, 5K and an 8K along Pacific
Coast Highway and inland to Central Park.
Sign-ups and a vendor exposition will be held Downtown on Jan. 28 and 29,
with another expo held the day of the event at Pier Plaza.

IN WITH THE NEW
Out With The Old, In With The New will be the theme of the Huntington
Beach Christian Women’s Club luncheon set for Jan. 26 at the Los
Caballeros Sports Village Ballroom in Fountain Valley.
Guest speakers will be Melinda Lipinski, who will talk about getting
organized, and Jeanne Jordan, who will lead a discussion titled “Life
Changing Decade.” Music will be provided by Gloria Haslam.
Doors will open at 10:45 a.m., with the festivities beginning at 11:15
a.m. The cost is $14. Child care will be available with early
registration. Reservations should be made by Wednesday.
