Soccer: Ameba win two over weekend
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Beach Ameba, an AYSO boys-14 Area Q
team, won back-to-back games this past weekend against the Tustin
Mustard, 7-0, and South Irvine, 4-1.
In the win over Tustin, Eduardo Garcia scored three goals, while
Brenden Zimmer and Sergio Luna each added two.
The Ameba’s defense was led by sweeper Arthur Perez, cornerbacks Max
Petty, Brandon Sowers, Taylor Conant and stopper Erik Zepeda. Goalie
Kaiona Dutro had six saves.
In the win over South Irvine, Zimmer had two goals, while Garcia and
Mike Richardson added single tallies.
Next up for the Ameba is Corona del Mar, which will be played at Loma
Vista School in Tustin Saturday at noon. The winner of the contest will
advance to the six-city area championship game in Irvine.
