Hilgendorf, Skeie honored

COSTA MESA - Orange Coast College Athletic Director Jane Hilgendorf
and director of the Fitness Specialist Certificate Program, Leon Skeie
will each receive awards presented by the State Community College
Organization of Physical Educators.
Hilgendorf and Skeie will each receive their SCOPE awards at a brunch
on Friday, March 24 at the Wyndham Palm Springs Hotel in Palm Springs.
Skeie was named the “Fitness/Exercise Physiology Instructor of the
Year,” while Hilgendorf was named the “Physical Education Administrator
of the Year.”
Skeie has been a part of OCC since 1973, where he started as an
athletic trainer. Now, not only is he the director of the Fitness
Specialist Program, but he also teaches Physical Education Majors courses
as well as some Adaptive Education classes.
In 1998, Skeie was nominated for Faculty Member of the Year at OCC and
in 1999, was named to the Daily Pilot Sports Hall of Fame.
Hilgendorf has been a part of OCC for the past 29 years. In that time,
she has won numerous coaching awards, including being named to the
California Community College Volleyball Coaches Association’s Hall of
Fame in 1996.
For 19 seasons, Hilgendorf coached the Pirates to three women’s
volleyball state championships in 1978, 1980 and 1982, while compiling a
233-100 record.
As the Dean, Hilgendorf was instrumental in hiring two new full-time
faculty members for the division.
