Boys water polo: 10 locals All-CIF

The Back Bay boys water polo contingent of Corona del Mar and

Newport Harbor highs schools placed 10 players on the coaches’ All-CIF

Southern Section selections.

Pacific Coast League MVP Garrett Gentry, a senior two-meter man who led

the Sea Kings to the CIF Division II championship, is a first-team pick,

as is junior teammate Garrett Bowlus.

Newport Harbor senior goalie Tim Birdsong, the Sea View League MVP, is

joined on the Division I first team by teammate Peter Belden, a junior.

CdM seniors Alex Niehenke, Morgan Johnston and Brad Netherton are on the

Division II second team.

Newport Harbor junior Ryan Cook is joined on the Division I second team

by senior teammate Brendan Hansen, while Sailor senior Robert Weiner is

recognized on the third team.

The Sea Kings, champions of the Pacific Coast League, collected their

10th section crown and finished 20-10.

The Sailors, who earned their third straight Sea View League title,

advanced to the CIF semifinals and finished 26-3.

Long Beach Wilson senior Tony Azevedo is the Division I Player of the

Year and Servite senior Michael Kim is the Division II Player of the

Year.
