Boys basketball: Mesa knocks off Sunny Hills
FULLERTON - Ryan Naff scored 19 points to lead Costa Mesa High’s
boys basketball team to a 65-56 nonleague win over Sunny Hills Wednesday
night.
Mustangs senior Nathan Jones chipped in with 10 points, while seniors
Steve Whittaker and Dave Weir each scored nine.
It was the Mustangs’ defense that was the story early, as they held the
Lancers to only four first-quarter points, while jumping out to a
nine-point lead.
Naff scored 11 of his 19 points in the first quarter.
Zach De Leon scored 15 points for Sunny Hills (4-7).
Costa Mesa (9-3) will take on the Canyon High JV squad Monday at 1:30
p.m. in the first round of the Canyon Tournament.
