Thurman to Cal Poly

Former Corona del Mar High three-sport standout Tim Thurman, an
All-Mission Conference tight end the last two seasons at Golden West
College, has verbally committed to continue his football and baseball
careers at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, his father Tim Thurman said
Tuesday.
The younger Thurman, a 6-foot-7, 250-pound sophomore, will play baseball
at Golden West this spring and obtain his associate arts degree, before
transferring with a full scholarship.
Thurman, who played football, basketball and baseball as a Sea King, had
31 receptions for 426 yards and six touchdowns this fall, despite missing
three games with a sprained ankle.
He was second-team all-conference as a freshman for the Rustlers and a
first-team choice this season.
He pitches and plays first base in baseball.
Thurman will join former Newport Harbor High standout Brett Baker at Cal
Poly. Baker led the 3-8 Mustangs in tackles as a sophomore safety last
fall.
