Police arrested a 42-year-old Costa Mesa man late Monday night after he
fled the scene of a traffic accident in Fountain Valley in which two
people were killed and three others were injured, including a 5-month-old
infant.
Agustin Gonzalez Galindo was found hiding in a bush about a quarter-mile
away from where the accident occurred, police said. He was arrested on
suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence and hit
and run. He was booked into the Orange County Jail and his bail has been
set for $50,000.
The accident happened about 10:38 p.m. Monday at the intersection of
Newhope Street and Warner Avenue. Police suspect Galindo, who was driving
his black pickup truck southbound on Newhope, may have ran a red light.
His vehicle collided with a blue Ford Mustang that was traveling
eastbound on Warner.
The driver, 24-year-old Nestor Ramirez Suastegui of Huntington Beach, was
killed. One of his passengers, 28-year-old Maria Reyna Cano, also was
killed.
Cano’s 5-month-old boy, who was in a child safety seat, was critically
injured when he was thrown from the vehicle. The boy was taken to
Childrens Hospital of Orange County.
The infant’s father, 27-year-old Cei Muyorido of Huntington Beach, also
was transported to a hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
Another passenger, 22-year-old Jesus Ramirez of Huntington Beach, was
treated for facial lacerations at a hospital and released.
Police said Galindo managed to get away after the accident. Authorities
found the suspect about 20 minutes later, hiding in a bush near Mount
Collien Street and Corinth Circle.
