Girls basketball: Oilers pull away

LA PALMA - Corona del Mar High’s girls basketball team came back

from a nine-point halftime deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter,

but Huntington Beach’s Amy Sanders had five free throws and a layup to

key a 46-38, win in the semifinals of the Troy-Kennedy Tournament

Thursday at Kennedy High.

CdM (3-1) made a frantic comeback from a 31-23 third-quarter deficit.

Kristen McCoy scored six of her 13 points, Charlene Quon hit two

three-pointers and Mijanou Pham hit two free throws for CdM to tie it at

37 with 2:46 left.

But Sanders, who finished with 31 points, was too much.

The Sea Kings play the Troy-Capistrano Valley loser in tonight’s 6:15

third-place game at Troy High.
