Timberwolves move into first-place
Both the Timberwolves and Volcanoes fought to the finish Thursday
in a match that carried first-place implications, and it was the
Timberwolves who emerged with a 1-0 victory in a defensive-minded Smythe
Division clash at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.
A second quarter goal by Shaun Jennings, who scored unassisted, proved to
be the game-winner.
Both teams’ defenses played well throughout the contest. Timberwolves
goalkeeper Jonathan Blunda stopped 15 shot attempts, and the Volcanoes
Marc Cooney stymied the Timberwolves on 19 shots on goal.
The victory allowed the Timberwolves to take over first place in the
division for the first time this season. Their 6-1-3 mark was just enough
to surpass the Volcanoes, who suffered their first loss of the season in
falling to 5-1-3, in the standings.
