Rebels launch season with win
The North Huntington Beach Rebels spotted Chino Valley a quick 5-0,
but bounced back to score a 45-32 victory in a season-opening National
Junior Basketball Girls 6th-Grade All-Net Blue Conference contest.
Lindsey Schulze and Lauren Kortizija began the comeback by combining to
score 12 unanswered points, then Jessica Kwan scored the next six to help
the Rebels outscore Chino Valley, 30-13, to roll up a 30-18 advantage.
Chino Valley used a trio of three-point shots to pull to within 32-27
late in the third quarter but Schulze, who led all scorers with 16
points, and Ciara Sheppard, who finished with nine, took over on offense
as the Rebels built their lead to 42-31.
Dana Van Voorhis and Parla Alpan hit the defensive boards and finished
with 9 and 7 rebounds, respectively, and together blocked 12 shots in the
second half of play.

Alicia Wilkerson scored eight points and had four rebounds, Angela Ruiz
scored seven points with three rebounds and two assists, and Krystal
Magdaleno finished with four points, three rebounds, and two assists to
lead the Sparks to a season-opening victory.
