Girls soccer: Mesa, Aliso Niguel fire blanks
ALISO VIEJO - Costa Mesa high girls’ soccer team needed strong
defense and flawless goaltending in Tuesday’s nonleague matchup and
judging by the 0-0 result, the Mustangs got what they needed.
Margaret Landeros had 14 saves for the Mustangs (2-0-2), while the
defensive play of Katie Roche, Sara Smallcomb and May Powers rose to the
challenge of the ever-charging Aliso Niguel (3-0-1) offense.
“That was one of the best goaltending games I’ve seen in quite a
while,” Coach Dan Johnston said. “We really did a good job of using a
swarming style of defense against their offense.”
The Mustangs will continue play as they host Laguna Hills Thursday at
3:15 p.m.
