BRIEFLY
-- Greg Risling
A mild temblor centered seven miles southeast of Yorba Linda Tuesday
afternoon did little damage in the Newport-Mesa area.
The magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled Orange County shortly before 2 p.m.
with a quick jolt that lasted about two seconds. Authorities in both
cities said there were no emergency responses prompted by the quake, but
several residents did call, wondering what had happened.
Over at the Newport Beach Fire Department on Santa Barbara Drive,
firefighters heard a loud noise but didn’t think it was caused by a
quake.
“It felt like a big truck had bumped up against our building,” said Lt.
John Blauer, community relations officer for the Newport Beach Fire and
Marine Department. “Some of our guys thought something was dropped, but
it turned out to be an earthquake.”
