Let voters decide on development
Unhappy with Newport’s leadership? Are you a registered voter in Newport
Beach? Do you want a voice in development in Newport Beach? Let the
voters decide the issue of increased density. Sign the Greenlight
initiative or the developers and the council members will control our
comfort, lifestyle and investments. They care less about the negative
effects on the residents in favor of revenue. I believe the Greenlight
initiative is a wake-up call to the city of Newport Beach. To quote Bill
Gates, “Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of
learning.”

Corona del Mar needs face-lift
A few days ago in your Letters to the Editor section, Andrea Campbell
from Newport Beach wrote a letter saying how terrible Corona del Mar
looks (“Locals like Corona del Mar plan,” Nov. 20). I agree with her
totally. I have lived here in Corona del Mar for 20 years and I think
this is the worst it has ever looked. There are no decorations, there are
no trees, they don’t put Christmas lights up -- it’s sad. It’s sad that
it has been so over-legislated that the businesses aren’t allowed to
decorate, to put pretty plants outside or tables and chairs. We live in
such a prosperous neighborhood that something could be done, it seems.

Dunes report doesn’t address Linda Isle exit
A glaring omission is immediately obvious in the environmental impact
report for the hotel project at Newport Dunes. Having read the report, we
find no reference made to traffic along Bayside Drive. There are two
intersections that surely will be impacted significantly: the exits from
Linda Isle and from Harbor Island Drive. Making left turns from these
streets into greatly increased traffic flow will create a danger that the
study does not address at all.
We urge the Newport Beach City Council to require further study into the
project’s impact on local residents and Bayside Drive safety and
congestion.
