Carrozzo at the helm

FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- City Councilman Guy Carrozzo will become the city’s

mayor on Tuesday.

Carrozzo began his third term on the city council in 1998. He began his

stint on the council in 1990, and was reelected in 1994.

Carrozzo said he is dedicating his term as mayor to the nation’s

veterans.

“As I have become older, I realized how important soldiers have been in

preserving the nation’s freedom,” Carrozzo said.

He served in the military during the Korean War, stationed on the

Japanese island of Okinawa, where he helped supply ammunition for U.S.

bombers on their way to Korea.

Carrozzo, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, noted that he will be

installed as mayor on Pearl Harbor Day.

Carrozzo cites his success in developing and maintaining a balanced

budget for eight consecutive years while serving on the city council.

The 35-year Fountain Valley resident played a role in guiding the city’s

community-wide effort leading to the adoption of a “20-year General Plan”

for the city.

“I don’t make any political promises before going into office,” Carrozzo

said. He did pledge to conduct himself with honesty, integrity and hard

work while serving as mayor.

One of Carrozzo’s proudest political achievements is the fact that he has

won three city council elections while spending a grand total of only

$3,500.

“I ran three successful elections with hard work and the help of my

wife,” he said. He spent hours knocking on doors to campaign for

elections, he said.

Carrozzo, a retired Westminster school principal, has been married for 45

years and has two children.
