The name Ned Hill is familiar to many Newport-Mesa residents because of
his marriage to Dora Hill, Newport Beach’s first woman mayor.
But Hill, who moved to Newport Beach in 1942, played his own important
role in shaping the development of the community. He helped found Lido
Isle’s Ackerman Boatyard in 1942 and founded Mariners Bank in 1954. He
was emeritus president of the Bank of Newport.
Hill also was one of the founders of the “Goofoffers” club and Hoag
Hospital’s 552 club, as well as a charter member of the Newport Harbor
Area Chamber of Commerce Commodores Club. He died in 1990.
* MILLENNIUM MOMENT celebrates the people who have made a major
contribution to the Newport-Mesa community during this century.
