A boat company and the Newport Beach Fire Department have teamed up
during the holiday season to give gifts to needy children and residents
alike.
In exchange for an unwrapped toy of at least $10 in value, donors can
receive a free harbor cruise aboard the electric riverboat Angela Louise.
The toys collected will be used for the county’s annual “Spark of Love”
drive.
Last year, the drive produced more than 108,000 toys, which were
distributed to children in the Los Angeles area.
Those interested in dropping off toys can do so during the day on Sunday
and during the evening on Monday.
Donors will be treated to a 90-minute tour of Newport Harbor. The
turn-of-the-century vessel can carry a little more than 100 passengers.
Organizers said everyone benefits from the collaborative effort.
“Together, we want to bring as much happiness as we can this year to as
many children as possible,” said Lt. John Blauer, community relations
officer for the Newport Beach Fire and Marine Department. “This gives
something to everyone.”
